Hameau de la Grèze

Between the Dordogne and the Vézère, where the Périgord Noir keeps its most secret promises, Le Buisson-de-Cadouin stretches along the river's meanders like a village that has decided to move no faster than the seasons. It is here, a few minutes' walk from the UNESCO-listed Cistercian abbey, that the Hameau de la Grèze awaits large gatherings.

The estate unfolds like a true Périgord hamlet: blonde stone that July's sun turns almost golden, lauze-tiled roofs, and that particular silence that only the countryside of the South-West can offer. Ten rooms accommodate up to twenty-one guests, an ideal number for extended family reunions, informal seminars, or weekends with friends that deserve space and open air.

Communal life naturally organizes itself around the pool, the gravitational center of lazy afternoons, before the barbecue takes over as the day winds down. Inside, a kitchen equipped with a dishwasher handles the aftermath of feasts without complaint, and the washing machine quickly proves its worth on longer stays. When autumn tints the oak trees in shades of rust and ochre, the fireplace becomes the heart of the hamlet: guests gather there after walks through the porcini-filled woods, and evenings stretch on over the board games available on site.

Le Buisson-de-Cadouin opens onto a generous territory: the decorated caves of the Vézère valley, Sarlat and its truffle markets, the medieval bastide towns of Beaumont and Issigeac, and the vineyards of the Bergerac region less than an hour away. The Dordogne can be crossed by canoe, the village bakeries still hold out against uniformity, and local producers are happy to deliver.

What guests will take away from La Grèze is not only a late-season tan or photographs by the pool. It is that rare feeling of having truly lived in a place, of having spent a few days at the pace of a Périgord that belongs to no tourist brochure.
