Casas rurales Dondevilla

About
In the heart of northern Castile, where the Butrón valleys cut through the ochre stone plateaus, the hamlet of Ahedo del Butrón lives to the slow rhythm of the seasons and distant bells. It is in this almost whispered village that the Casas Rurales Dondevilla have been rooted for generations — a farmhouse restored with rare care, where the exposed beams and thick walls hold the memory of the Merindad de Sotoscueva.
The house is large, truly large. It comfortably welcomes groups in search of space — extended families, circles of friends, multigenerational gatherings — without ever descending into the anonymity of mass accommodations. The rooms have character: a functional, well-equipped kitchen for preparing a festive meal for fifteen, a generously proportioned living room, bedrooms where you sleep as you no longer sleep anywhere else. Outside, the garden is a surprise — vast, well-tended, silent — discovered in the early morning with a still-steaming cup of coffee.
What makes Dondevilla singular is the family that runs it. Present without being intrusive, attentive without being obsequious, they know every corner of the region and can point you toward a ridge trail, a village market, or a bodega that no guidebook has listed. In winter, when snow hardens the paths and fire crackles in the hearth, the place takes on an almost magical quality — travelers who have spent Christmas there still speak of the carols heard from the street and of the magic of a Christmas Eve outside of time.
In summer, it is the vast green expanse of Las Loras that calls — nature parks, dolmens, gorges carved into ancient limestone. In the evening, children play under the stars while adults set the table outside.
What you take with you when leaving Dondevilla is not just the memory of a beautiful house. It is the memory of a place that knew how to slow time — and of faces, those of a family and a village, that make you want to return.

We were a group of 6 adults and 6 young children at Dondevila1 and it was fantastic. The house is huge, well-equipped, and has a charming country feel (no impersonal modern amenities). But the best part was the garden and meadow where the children ran wild. The village is peaceful and beautiful, and the surrounding area is stunning. The hosts were always attentive and friendly; we hope to return someday!

A huge house. Beautiful. Peaceful. Tastefully restored. An incredible garden. Run by a very attentive, friendly, and welcoming family... If you're looking for a retreat to disconnect from everything, a base for exploring the area and sightseeing... Whatever it is, you'll love this place.

I stayed with my family (parents, siblings, and nephews/nieces) at Casas Dondevilla (17 people). The experience was wonderful—we were able to eat together in the dining room of Casa 1. The Sedano brothers provide us with some fantastic, traditional houses, lovingly renovated. It's clear they enjoyed the renovation process. I highly recommend the houses and the Merindades landscape. Next time, we'll go with a less hectic schedule so we can follow Juanjo's recommendations. :-)

Fabulous country house, spacious and with a spectacular patio. The house is in a very quiet area, ideal for disconnecting from everyday stress. This is the second time we've stayed in the main house and we were very satisfied. We wanted to see this area in both winter and summer and it didn't disappoint. The kids had a great time playing football in the attic and on the grounds… A special thank you to the owners for their hospitality; they welcomed us with honey from their own harvest and shared produce from their garden with us: cherries, lettuce, onions, zucchini… They also let us leave whenever we wanted on Sunday! Thank you so much, Mari Angeles, you have a wonderful house!
