Outside, there is a different kind of breathing. The pool becomes the centre of gravity on summer afternoons, where children dive while adults stretch out in the sun. The barbecue takes over in the evenings: embers glow, the smell of fire mingles with freshly cut hay, and conversations drift on under the stars without anyone quite knowing why.
