About

Nestled in the hills of Cazorla, on the edge of Andalusia's largest natural park, Cortijo los Abedules is a traditional farming estate bringing together several self-contained apartments around generous shared spaces. The property comfortably accommodates around twenty people, with spacious bedrooms and layouts suited to a variety of family configurations.

For a group, the way a place is organized makes all the difference. Each apartment has its own privacy, yet all open onto the same well-tended garden planted with century-old olive trees — a space to unwind where conversations naturally linger in the shade. The pool, peaceful and well-maintained, becomes the gravitational center of afternoons. The central patio lends itself to outdoor group dinners: large enough to bring everyone together at a single table, without the need to juggle multiple rooms.

The kitchen is equipped to handle real group cooking, and the cleanliness of the shared spaces — consistently highlighted in reviews — avoids the usual friction of communal living.

The cortijo is particularly well suited to extended family weekends, milestone birthdays, light professional retreats, and bachelorette or bachelor parties looking to step away from city-based formats. For an intimate wedding with on-site accommodation, the rural setting and flexible spaces offer a coherent option. The immediate proximity to Cazorla gives access to hiking, wildlife watching, and the villages of the Sierra, making it easy to build an activity program across several days.

The hosts, Diana and Roger, are present without being intrusive — a balance guests consistently note, and one that matters when you're coordinating a group.

We had an amazing weekend. The cortijo is surrounded by olive trees, the beautiful garden and the peaceful swimming pool contribute to a lovely atmosphere. Diana and Roger are kind and nice hosts. We would love to come back!

Beautiful house, nice patio to have dinner al fresco, and quite convenient swimming pool. House was clean, kitchen OK with everything we needed and rooms big. Location is very good, very close to Cazorla, but being in the middle of olive trees, it is a very quite place, the sky in the night is amazing, full of stars. Owners are quite friendly. Access to the house is well indicated and the path is OK.

Your hosts have created the perfect place for your holiday home. With a choice of accommodation to suit most needs; each apartment has access to the restful gardens where one can unwind and shed the cares of life. There is a swimming pool and an area for sunbathing. Excellent for a relaxing stay, away from it all, yet all is still within easy reach. The Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas is on the doorstep where all the delights of nature, wildlife, scenery and more are at hand. One can see how mountains were formed and are still being sculpted by erosion and by man. One can see vultures circling over your head as in the cartoons of the man lost in the desert, yet not be worried. At the Centro de Interpretación de Madera at Vadillo Castril, one can see how and why this area was created a “maritime province” so far from the sea, followed, in more recent times, by how it facilitated the development of the railways in Spain. Visit the birthplace of the great Rio Guadalquivir and many other "secret" places in the areas not open to the general public by taking one of the 4x4 guided tours. In the courtyard of the castle of Segura de Sierra there are various displays of how life used to be and how they coped in olden times followed by lunch in the village, itself. There are many other interesting villages to explore, all within easy reach. Yet, as if this were not enough, one is close to two UNESCO World Heritage sites, Baeza and Úbeda both full of history. A little farther away, to the south, in Guadix and its surrounds, one is into Troglodyte country, where houses are carved into the soft clay (which then hardens into a rock-like substance,) to give homes that are cool in summer but warm in winter. To the North there is more to interest one with the Natural Park de Despeñaperros (where they throw dogs) reputed to be where the Christians threw the bodies of the Moors following the battle at Navas de Toloso. The old road that passes through the defile offers some stunning scenery, now without the traffic since the opening of the new road. There are also several more Natural Parks within easy reach, the Sierra Mágina and the Sierra de Andujar to the west and the northwest respectively, then crossing over into Granada province to the southeast, there are the Sierra de Castril which adjoins the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas and the Sierra de Baza. There is much, much more to see and to do, all you need is the time. In a couple of months we will be staying there again and are very much looking forward to it.
