Mas Saint Antoine

Between the limestone cliffs of the Ardèche and the banks of the Rhône, Bourg-Saint-Andéol displays a resolutely southern character: medieval alleyways, the scent of sun-warmed garrigue, light that turns grey stone to ochre in the golden hour. The mas accommodates up to 38 people across 11 rooms — enough space for everyone to breathe, enough intimacy for the group to remain a group. From the moment of arrival, the pool calls without warning. Ardèche afternoons can be long and generous; the air conditioning ensures the nights, at least, are gentle. Wi-Fi follows you everywhere, but nobody really remembers it after a few hours.

In the evening, the barbecue takes over. There is something irreducible about the ritual: the embers, the glasses of Côtes du Vivarais, conversations that stretch on for no good reason. The large, fully equipped kitchen — dishwasher, washing machine — absorbs the logistics of a group this size without flinching, and leaves time for what matters. When the temperature drops toward evening, the fireplace takes the helm with a quiet authority.

The games available on site do the rest: pétanque under the plane trees, matches that go on too long, laughter that carries far across the surrounding fields. The Gorges de l'Ardèche are a short drive away for those who enjoy canoeing or hiking. The village itself is worth a wander: its Roman triumphal arch, its market, its aged goat's cheeses that exist nowhere else in quite the same way.

What guests take away from Mas Saint Antoine is not exactly an image. It is more of a lingering sensation — the weight of heat on the shoulders, the smell of wood in the stone, the certainty that this corner of France deserves a return visit.
