Maison Gaudenzio

About
Deep in the folds of the Aosta Valley, away from the overcrowded tourist circuits, the village of Challand Saint Anselme preserves a rare authenticity. Larch trees dominate the slopes, stone bell towers mark the scattered hamlets, and time seems to flow at the pace of the herds descending from the high alpine pastures. It is in this setting that Maison Gaudenzio stands as a carefully considered refuge for those seeking the mountain in its truest form.
The house has been entirely renovated while preserving the soul of Valdostan architecture: the interiors play with traditional mountain wood, warm and enveloping, while the rooms reflect a contemporary attention to the smallest detail. Brand new, spacious, and well-appointed, they offer a level of comfort one would not necessarily expect in such a small village. The bathrooms — generous, with shower and bidet — have left a lasting impression on more than one guest, particularly for a detail that brings a smile: towels offered in three sizes, distinguished by different colors. A simple idea, disarmingly original, that says a great deal about the spirit of the place.
The owners, whose helpfulness and warmth have been universally praised, set the tone from the very first moment. They know their valley inside out and will guide hiking enthusiasts toward the least-traveled trails, or point skiers in the direction of the Brusson slopes, just twenty minutes away by road. The resorts of Ayas and Champoluc round out the winter offerings within easy driving distance.
In summer, the Aosta Valley reveals itself in a different light: the flowering meadows, the trails of the Monte Rosa circuit, the local producers' markets, and the region's wines — Fumin, Petite Arvine — invite a slower kind of immersion. In the evening, guests return to Maison Gaudenzio with tired legs and the appetite that comes with long days outdoors, to rediscover the warmth of the wood-paneled rooms and the thick silence of the surrounding peaks.
What guests take away with them is less the memory of a place to stay than of a mountain experienced from the inside — welcomed, inhabited, and in some small way, adopted.

The room we stayed in is brand new, very spacious, well-furnished, and has a fabulous bathroom. The idea of having different-colored towels (small, medium, and large) is very original. The room faces the main road, so there's a bit of noise with the windows open, but with them closed, the soundproofing is very good. The windows are missing shutters. The curtains, though very thick, still let in some light. I would also put curtains on the windows for a little more privacy. The mattress is a bit hard but comfortable. The pillow was also a bit hard, but it was quickly replaced by the very kind owner. Highly recommended.
Beautiful, clean, and recently built rooms. Large bathroom with shower and bidet. Friendly and helpful owners. The location, in a small village with few amenities and surrounded by houses in need of renovation, is a drawback.
A small guesthouse, beautifully renovated with traditional mountain wood interiors. The owners are extremely friendly and always available. A 20-minute drive from the Brusson slopes and 30 minutes from the Champoluc ski area. Convenient parking is available nearby, some of which is free.
Nice and cozy rooms, some with kitchenettes. Fair prices, and friendly and helpful owners. Located across the street from a hotel/restaurant offering reasonably priced meals and a short walk from a small market. About twenty minutes from Champoluc.
Very kind owners, new structure and very clean and welcoming room, bathroom equipped with every comfort, also provided kettle with herbal teas, tea and coffee
