Le Jardin de Marraine

About
Pézenas, a town of art and history nestled in the heart of the Hérault, still bears in its medieval alleyways the mark of Molière, the tanners and wool merchants who once made it the capital of the Languedoc. It is here, a stone's throw from Renaissance mansions and colorful markets smelling of thyme and garrigue, that Le Jardin de Marraine opens its arms — and its grand iron gate — to welcome you.
This characterful cottage accommodates up to 23 people across 10 bedrooms, designed for big family gatherings, birthdays that stretch over three days, and reunions that simply refuse to end. From the moment you arrive, the garden announces itself: generous and shaded, it wraps around a swimming pool you'll be diving into before you've even unpacked. The Occitan summer can be relentless — the air conditioning inside takes care of the rest.
The house runs on its own rhythm. Mornings are unhurried: coffee on the terrace, bread fetched from the local bakery, the scent of lavender and the chorus of cicadas. At midday, the barbecue takes over, and evenings stretch on around long, laden tables — the dishwasher will handle the aftermath without complaint. For days of pure laziness, the WiFi connection and a fine selection of games let everyone find their own pace, from the youngest to the least hurried. The washing machine, quietly, solves the problem of bags packed too small.
The town is within sandal-reach. The Saturday market, the antique dealers' galleries, wine tastings at the vineyards of Saint-Chinian or Picpoul de Pinet — Pézenas runs at a human scale, the kind you forget about during the rest of the year. Thirty minutes away, the sea. Ten minutes away, the first vineyards.
What guests take away when they leave is not just a tan or photos of the pool. It is that rare feeling of having truly lived somewhere, rather than merely stayed — of having shared meals that lasted, nights gentle enough to sleep with the windows open, and that sense particular to the South of France that time, here, still belongs to those who know how to take it.

When you go (and you simply must) to the charming and lively town of Pézenas in the South of France, LE JARDIN is the best spot to relax and soak up the atmosphere while enjoying lunch, a snack, coffee, or a drink. It’s perfectly located on a shaded terrace overlooking the historic Place Gambetta. The specialties of the house are a mouth-watering selection of galettes sarrasins—the traditional savory buckwheat crêpe from Normandy, including the “Petit Dej,“ a French improvement on the almost-impossible-to-find (in France) American breakfast. The menu also includes a variety of delicious main course salads, specials, and appetizers. There’s a separate dessert menu of crêpes sucrées, and ice cream sundaes. The service is impeccable and friendly.
Such a lovely spot with very friendly and welcoming staff. We were looking for 'brunch' rather than lunch in this small french town and couldn't have been happier with our delicious galette de petit dejuener ( bacon, egg, cheese crepe). Aperol spritzes excellent too. Would go back .
Not sure why other reviews are lower. Service was great and we loved the terrace. We both had a savoury crepe with egg, bacon that was perfect as we were looking for something for a late breakfast. Aperol spritz's were also spot on.
My favourite place in Pezenas. Food is amazing, especially the lamb shank and the deserts are a must have. The staff David, Mia and Melanie are great fun and could not be more helpful. We would highly recommend a visit to this great restaurant and we will keep coming back, and would recommend you do the same.
3* is probably a bit generous, as the food was definitely 2* or less, but the location is great, there was a cool orange tree right by our table, and our waiter gave us very good service. My father had an omelette with duck in it, and the duck was not cooked and very chewy. However he picked it out and asked them to cook it which they did - a quick stir fry. I had a galette Provencal, which was average-to-poor, with a very thin, slightly overcooked crêpe, should have had pesto which it didn't, just huge amounts of garlic. My daughter's tagliatelle carbonara was also average-to-poor, she said mine is better :) The desserts may be better from those I saw going past.
