Gite la Tuffière

In the Loue valley, where limestone cliffs plunge toward an emerald river, Vuillafans still holds the secret of the old Franche-Comté villages. Here, stone is sovereign — that soft, porous stone, the tufa, which the ancients quarried to build their homes, their cellars, their memory. It is within this geological and human heritage that the Gîte la Tuffière takes its place, carrying in its very name the essence of this singular land.

The gîte accommodates up to 35 people across its 10 rooms, making it an ideal setting for large family gatherings, immersive retreats, or celebrations that call for space and character. The living areas flow into one another with the generosity typical of Franche-Comté homes — designed for everyone to come together, for conversations to linger, and for no one to want for anything.

Wi-Fi keeps those who need to stay reachable from fully disconnecting, while the games available on-site — cards, board games, good company — give shape to evenings as the valley settles beneath its soft mists. In summer, the Gorges de Nouailles and the banks of the Loue beckon for swimming and picnics; in autumn, the surrounding forests blaze with rust and gold, and one walks simply for the pleasure of walking.

Vuillafans lies a few kilometers from Ornans, the birthplace of Gustave Courbet, whose landscapes fed some of the most striking canvases of French realism. It is hard not to understand the artist when contemplating those same trembling reflections on the water, those same wooded horizons, unchanged for two centuries.
