About

At the foot of the Peña Carazo, that iconic mountain overlooking the vast golden plateaus of the Sierra de la Demanda, Villanueva de Carazo is one of those Castilian villages that seem to have stopped time in its tracks. A handful of ancient stone houses, the deep silence of the oak trees, the crisp and resinous air of the Burgos highlands — it is against this backdrop of a raw and authentic Spain that Casa Zarracatanita awaits you.

This generous cottage can sleep up to sixteen people, making it an ideal setting for weekend getaways with friends, family gatherings, or celebrations that deserve surroundings worthy of the occasion. Step inside and you immediately sense the care given to every detail: materials chosen with taste, spaces designed for conviviality, a fully equipped kitchen ready for large, festive meals. Outside, a lush garden invites you to laze in the Castilian sun or linger into the evening beneath a sky that, at this altitude, is exceptionally starlit. Your hosts, Álvaro and Alicia, have made sure nothing is lacking — their warm and unobtrusive presence is unanimously praised by guests who leave with a smile on their faces.

The house unfolds across several levels, with numerous rooms arranged so that everyone can find their own privacy without ever losing the pleasure of being together. A few minutes' drive away, Salas de los Infantes reveals its shops, its restaurants, and its surprising paleontological museum dedicated to dinosaurs — an unexpected curiosity in this remote corner of the province of Burgos.

The surrounding landscape lends itself to hiking through pine and oak forests, to exploring the medieval villages of the Lara county, or simply to that rare luxury: doing nothing at all, while gazing from the garden at a horizon of stone and sky.

What do travelers take away from Casa Zarracatanita? The memory of a home that feels alive and lovingly kept, the warmth of hosts who make all the difference, and that lingering sense that Castile, seen from here, looks exactly like what you had hoped to find: wild, generous, and deeply human.

What a beautiful and welcoming house!!! We spent a long weekend there with friends! Sixteen of us enjoyed it! It's full of lovely details, with a wonderful garden... the hosts, Álvaro and Alicia, were spectacular... with a welcome gift included... we couldn't have had a better time! Surrounded by nature and with a rustic restaurant right across the street... which makes the stay even easier and better... A 10 out of 10!!! I would definitely come back!

The house is very spacious and well-equipped. The village is incredibly peaceful, nestled on the slopes of the stunning Peña Carazo mountain, and just a few minutes away is Salas de los Infantes, with its many shops and bars. The area is breathtaking for those of us who come from the drylands... The host, Álvaro, who recently took over the house, is incredibly attentive and always available.

We stayed this past weekend and the experience couldn't have been better. The house is beautiful with all the amenities, and both Miguel and María do everything possible to make your stay perfect. The surroundings are lovely, very close to Salas de los Infantes. Special mention goes to the spectacular lobster rice dish, which you can order there. 100% recommended.
