Casa Rural Valle Arrago 3*

About
In the northwest of Extremadura, the Sierra de Gata traces a green border between Spain and Portugal — a land of pink granite, wild cherry trees, and raptors circling high in the blue sky. Robledillo de Gata — named one of the most beautiful villages in Spain — clings to a hillside above the gorges of the río Arrago, its cobblestone lanes, wooden balconies, and half-timbered houses a reminder that time, here, flows differently.
Casa Rural Valle Arrago nestles within this extraordinary setting, a few minutes' walk from the medieval heart of the village. The cottage offers several rooms to accommodate a group, arranged across multiple levels, with a living room and a fully equipped kitchen where meals can be prepared together — the perfect occasion to bring back from the local market the Sierra cheese, acorn-fed Iberian ham, or olive oil pressed in the neighboring orchards. A terrace looks out over the tiled rooftops and wooded ridges, an ideal backdrop for the long evenings of the Spanish summer.
The region rewards those who prefer to walk rather than rush through: the trails of the Sierra de Gata wind through century-old chestnut groves, skirt cool reservoirs where a July swim is pure pleasure, and climb toward viewpoints that GPS devices have yet to discover. Cáceres, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is less than an hour's drive away; the Portuguese border, barely more.
What groups bring back from these stays rarely fits in a suitcase: the golden late-afternoon light on the slate rooftops of Robledillo, the scent of rosemary rising from the scrubland after rain, conversations stretching on under the stars, far from the light pollution of cities. An authentic and little-known Extremadura, well away from overcrowded circuits — for those looking to rediscover a lost pace.

I'm giving it a 1 because I can't give it less. I'm from Cáceres, and all the owners of this house were incredibly unpleasant. The house is only suitable for 7 people at most, not 12 as advertised. It's dirty and in poor condition, the radiators are blocked, the house is freezing, they barely leave you any firewood, there's nowhere to have a barbecue or anything... 2 dishwasher tablets for 5 days... I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The town itself is beautiful, the Mesón Barrero restaurant is amazing, and the people there are very nice, but neither I nor anyone I know will ever return to this place.

Dirty and expensive place, lots of things don't work, doors that don't close, grease-filled pans from before the days of ceramic hobs, back-breaking foam mattresses, dirty sheets, the shower screen doesn't close, anyone can walk in since there's no lock on the garage door... etc. etc. Endless neglect on the part of the owner. In short, look for a better place for that price.

The house left much to be desired. It was dirty, and several things weren't working properly. Honestly, I won't be returning, nor do I recommend it.
