About

Nestled in the verdant countryside of Navarre, Casa Rural Apaiolarre is a spacious traditional house offering a calm and restful setting, far from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

The building stands out for its generous proportions, typical of Basque-Navarrese rural architecture. The interior spaces are well laid out, clean and well-kept, making it a suitable option for groups looking to gather in an authentic environment. The house, sometimes described as a modestly sized farmhouse, retains the character of the region's traditional constructions while providing functional comfort for a stay of several days.

In terms of overall standard, the house is generally well maintained and meets the expectations of quality rural accommodation. Traveller reviews highlight its cleanliness and general tidiness, although some note a few small details that could be improved to reach a truly excellent level. Access to the property deserves particular attention: the road leading to it can be tricky to follow with standard GPS devices, and it is advisable to rely on the owner's directions via Azpilkueta rather than blindly following online routes.

Azpilkueta lies at the heart of the Baztan Valley, one of the most unspoilt rural areas in Navarre. The immediate surroundings are an invitation to disconnect: wooded hills, rolling landscapes and abundant nature make up a setting that visitors readily describe as a "feast for the senses." The area lends itself to a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking in the surrounding hills, exploring the valley's traditional villages and discovering Basque-Navarrese cultural heritage. The tranquillity of the site also makes it an ideal choice for stays focused on relaxation and reconnecting with nature.

With an average rating of 4.7/5 based on 74 Google reviews, Casa Rural Apaiolarre enjoys a strong reputation among travellers who have stayed there.

10/10. We spent a week there and have nothing but praise for the place. The only drawback is getting there. Be very careful following Google Maps. It's best to listen to the owner and go via Azpilkueta. Otherwise, you'll have a rough time on the path Google Maps shows from Elizondo. So, first search for Azpilkueta and then, once you're there, search for the house's location. Even so, be careful under your car. It's ideal with children; you just have to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't wander into the parking area because there's a small ravine. It's two adjoining but distinct houses. We stayed in Apaiolarre II, the one with the views from the enclosed porch. What views! 🤩🤩🤩 The only sound is the cowbells. The lawn is fantastic! 😁 The interior consists of four bedrooms, three upstairs and one downstairs. There are two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. Kitchen and living room. We had a great stay as two families with children. It was clean and had everything we needed for a week, including blankets and towels. From the house, you can easily visit San Sebastián, the south of France (Bayonne and Biarritz), the Xorroxin waterfalls, Elizondo, and the Zugarramurdi and Urdax caves. For groceries, there's a Simply supermarket (an Alcampo) before you reach Elizondo, and a Venta Peio on the French border. In Elizondo, there's a Día and an Eroski supermarket, and I highly recommend the owner's bakery. She has excellent artisanal bread. I loved it.

Excellent location for a small farmhouse that lacks a few details to be truly top-notch. The surrounding area is a feast for the senses. The house is generally fine, clean, and tidy. However, we noticed a few things were missing: the kitchenware is limited, the bathrooms could use more hooks or storage areas, and some beds creak a lot (at least in Apiolarre I). The Wi-Fi is also quite poor. Marta, the owner, is a gem. In my opinion, with a small investment, it could be a truly top-notch house.

Beautiful setting, huge property with plenty of space for children. The houses are lovely, with a spectacular dining room perfect for enjoying meals while admiring the scenery and keeping an eye on the kids. The very kind woman drove us to the house; getting there at night can be a bit difficult.

A weekend to repeat. The houses are very nice (we rented both together). Having the gazebo enclosed so we could all eat together was a great touch. The owner was incredibly helpful.
