Les Barrats

At the heart of Berry, where the gentle hills of the Sancerrois slope down toward the vineyards and golden meadows, Sens-Beaujeu keeps the secret of villages that have managed to remain themselves. It is in this quiet corner of the Centre-Val de Loire, a few leagues from the wine cellars of Sancerre and the meanders of the Loire, that Les Barrats opens its doors to groups in search of an authentic anchor.

The cottage welcomes up to 27 people spread across its 7 bedrooms, designed so that everyone finds their own space without sacrificing the spirit of the group. From the very first moments, it is the fireplace that sets the pace — that central hearth around which evenings stretch naturally, glass of Sancerre in hand, after a day spent exploring the sunken lanes of the region.

Outside, the swimming pool becomes the hub of summer days: everyone gathers there between bike rides or after a trip to the market in a nearby village, children diving in while the adults light the barbecue. Meals linger outdoors, unhurried, with that particular feeling that time here obeys different laws. In the kitchen, a dishwasher and washing machine allow a large group's logistics to be handled effortlessly, and the Wi-Fi offers those who want it a discreet thread connecting them to the rest of the world.

Rainy afternoons have their own grace: out come the board games, everyone puts the world to rights by the fire, rediscovering the pleasure of a conversation that doesn't need to be productive. Berry has that rare quality of slowing people down without their ever minding.
