Les Ateliers du Moulin

About
Poligny, in the Jura, is first and foremost a smell — that of comté cheese aged in the cellars of the self-proclaimed capital of French cheese. It is also a landscape of gentle hills and deep forests, where ancient mills still dot the waterways. Here, in the heart of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Les Ateliers du Moulin reveals its secret: a reinvented industrial soul, a watermill whose wheel still sleeps beneath your feet, visible through the glass floor of the main living room.
The cottage sleeps up to 15 guests across 6 carefully appointed bedrooms, each bearing the mark of a confident aesthetic — natural materials, unexpected details, that way of blending the old and the contemporary that leads guests to say every corner of the house is worth lingering in. The shared spaces are generous, designed so that large gatherings can find their rhythm without getting in each other's way.
Outside, nature reasserts itself immediately. The barbecue is lit on the very first evening, time stretches out, children disappear into the garden. Inside, air conditioning tempers summer afternoons, and the available games naturally extend evenings with family or friends. The fully equipped kitchen — dishwasher included — handles collective feasts without complaint, and the washing machine means you can leave light after several days. Wi-Fi is available for those who cannot do without it, though the place has a gift for making screens feel less urgent.
The 40 Google reviews show a perfect 5/5 rating — a rare consistency that says as much about the quality of the place as it does about the attention paid to detail. Guests leave Les Ateliers du Moulin with precise images: the filtered light on the mill wheel, the sound of the stream as a constant backdrop, a meal that lasted far longer than planned. Poligny and its terroir take care of the rest — a few bottles of vin jaune, perhaps a wedge of comté tucked under one arm, and the certainty of having found a place that does not forget.

We had a wonderful stay here. The gite itself is immaculate, stylish and fun with lots of character/details. It is modern and yet also has a water mill which you can see through the floor of the main lounge. The house is extremely well equipped with games, books, kitchen appliances including things like fondue sets. In the heat of summer the house was beautifully cool. The garden is great to run around, play in the stream/little waterfall and relax in. It is easy to walk into the village, there is a great bakery next door for morning bread and pastries. All in all we had a wonderful stay here with our large family (4 kids, 8 adults). The house is great in so many ways but to be honest the icing on the cake were the extremely friendly, interesting and adventurous owners who have many tales to tell and clearly want you to enjoy their house. Many happy memories have been made here! Thank you!

A wonderful big house with great attention to detail and surrounded by nature where it's impossible not to relax. We had such a nice stay and we enjoyed every single corner of this place so much. The owners Marie-Julie and Andrè are so lovely, they tried to fulfil any kind of needs we asked for and they were a great company to have some chats with as well.

We were unfamiliar with the Coeur du Jura region. We discovered it with our little family. Providence led us to Les Ateliers du Moulin when we were originally planning to stay in Orchamps. We weren't disappointed! This gîte is a true haven of peace, soothed by the crystalline murmur of small waterfalls, and the view of the garden from the terrace is splendid. Admirably designed with natural materials, everything is harmonious and refined, with subtle decorative touches that enhance the bright spaces. It's a truly comfortable place to stay. Perfectly equipped, nothing is lacking (dishes, a complete set of cookware, even a griddle, games, books, guides, towels...). The icing on the cake: the authentic watermill right below, visible through a glass partition, which can be set in motion with a remote control: a magical spectacle for young and old alike! The bedrooms are tastefully furnished, and the bedding is very comfortable and high-quality. The number of bathrooms and toilets is a real plus. And what can we say about our hosts, Marie-Julie and André? If we had to choose just one word, I would say RICHNESS, but in all its senses: Cultural richness: Local heritage... Human richness: Marie-Julie and André gave us a wonderful welcome, offered excellent advice for our outings, were attentive, very available, and genuinely wanted everything to be alright. They were there when needed, yet remained discreet, and we enjoyed sharing some moments and a very convivial aperitif with them. Thank you, André, for this timeless drive you gave us in your superb Citroën Traction Avant and for the sunset discovery of the small village of Vaux-sur-Poligny and the Château de Frontenay. Thanks to the two of you, we had an excellent stay, unanimously appreciated; everything was perfect. We will definitely be back! And we will warmly recommend your gîte to our friends and acquaintances.
