La Ferme du Praz

Deep in the Montjoie valley, where the alpine meadows give way to larch forests and Mont Blanc glimpses through at every bend in the path, Les Contamines-Montjoie still holds something untouched. No glitz, no pretense: just the mountain at its most genuine, and a village that has managed to stay a village.

La Ferme du Praz sits within this landscape as though it has always belonged there. This old Savoyard farmhouse, with its thick walls and beams that tell of winters filled with snow and livestock, now welcomes groups in search of space and fresh air. Up to 22 people can gather here, spread across 8 rooms designed so that everyone finds their own quiet corner after a full day out.

In the morning, sunlight filters through the small-paned windows while the first coffees brew. In the evening, the group comes together around the barbecue — embers crackling, someone has picked up sausages from the village shop, and the conversation stretches on until the stars take over. The washing machine hums quietly in the background while hikers dry their socks by the fireplace. The wifi lets the more connected guests share their photos in real time, and board games come out the moment rain shows up — which, in the mountains, is all part of the plan.

Les Contamines is also the starting point of the GR5 and the gateway to the wilder side of the Mont Blanc massif. In summer, the trails lead to mountain huts and high-altitude lakes. In winter, the ski area unfolds just above the village.

What guests take with them when they leave is rarely what they expected. Not just photos of summits or legs aching with the right kind of tiredness, but that rare sense of having lived something together — a meal that went on too long, a sunrise watched side by side, the silence of the alpine meadows that brings you back to what matters.
