About

At the far western edge of Extremadura, where cork oak dehesas stretch all the way to the Portuguese border, the medieval village of Acebo clings to the foothills of the Sierra de Gata like a well-kept secret. Grey stone, silent alleyways, storks on the bell towers — this is a deep Spain that tourist circuits have yet to discover. It is in this setting that Casa Rural Las Martas stands: a rural cottage that carries the soul of the place without sacrificing comfort.

The house comprises two independent two-bedroom apartments, designed to accommodate groups of up to ten people — an extra bed makes it easy to add a fifth guest per unit. The rustic charm comes through in the generous proportions, the thick walls that hold the cool air in summer, and a décor that pays tribute to local heritage without tipping into folksy cliché. The spaces are bright, impeccably maintained, and equipped with everything one could need — including, to the surprise of more than one guest, everything required to prepare breakfast from the very first morning.

The upper floor, particularly spacious, naturally becomes the gathering place for long evenings together: friends reuniting after a day's hiking in the nearby Hurdes, or celebrating a wedding in the area, like the seven friends who found here an ideal base for their festivities. The owners' service, unanimously praised, adds that human dimension which turns a decent stay into a genuine memory.

Outside, the Sierra de Gata unfolds its mountain trails, chestnut groves, and granite villages frozen in time. In the evenings, the Extremaduran sky — one of the least light-polluted in Europe — offers a spectacle that cities have long forgotten.

What do guests take away from Las Martas? Not just rest. Rather, that rare sensation of having touched something authentic: an unspoiled landscape, a hospitality free of calculation, and the memory of a silence that feels inhabited.

I went with 7 friends to a wedding and we stayed here. The house is fantastic! Spacious (especially upstairs), clean, and very comfortable. It's equipped with practically everything, even breakfast! Ángela is a lovely host. I wish you all the best!

A perfect getaway to disconnect. We stayed in the superior apartment and had a very pleasant and cozy stay thanks to the house's rustic charm. We were surprised by how spacious the apartment was, especially the bathroom. Every detail was carefully considered and it was very clean, plus the mattresses were excellent quality and new, so we slept wonderfully. The owners, Anastasio and Ángela, were delightful and very attentive. I read in many reviews about the cell phone coverage, and it's true, there's no coverage in the whole village unless you're with Movistar or Vodafone, but I think that's what you look for in rural accommodation: to disconnect. We'll be back!

There are two two-bedroom rural apartments; there were five of us, and we all fit in one with an extra bed. It was well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The service was excellent. It's in a great location in the center of the beautiful village of Acebo, in the Sierra de Gata mountains. It has a lively atmosphere and is surrounded by orange and olive groves, with a crystal-clear river just 1.5 km away where swimming is a delight. There are also many hiking trails and excursions in the area, as it's all very beautiful.

The house is well located. The stairs are a bit tricky if you have a lot of luggage. The apartment we stayed in for four people was fine: a small living room/kitchen, two spacious bedrooms, very comfortable beds and pillows, but only one bathroom. The kitchen was equipped. Breakfast included consisted of cartons of milk, a loaf of bread, a small jar of coffee, a selection of butter, jams, and pâtés; not bad. What I didn't like at all was that they left a dish sponge for washing dishes. If you use the kitchen, especially if you enjoy breakfast, it was quite worn. They should change the cleaning supplies for each guest and, above all, not leave dirty used oil in an oil cruet.

My family and I stayed for three days in June. The house was cozy, clean, and in a perfect location. The mother and daughter hosts were very attentive. We would definitely stay again if we returned.
