About

On the borders of Navarre and the Basque Country, where rolling green hills dissolve into the foothills of the Pyrenees, Urdax is one of those villages that seem untouched by time. Ancient beech forests, clear streams, and air thick with fresh grass compose a setting of rare gentleness — and it is precisely within this landscape that Casa Rural Aterbea I y II finds its place.

The house first impresses with its generous proportions: designed to host a large group in genuine comfort, it offers expansive living spaces where everyone finds their place without ever getting in each other's way. The interiors, bright and warm, extend onto a private terrace facing open countryside — the kind of panorama that invites you to sit there, coffee in hand, long after the sun has dipped behind the ridges.

Karmentxu and Iosune, the owners, belong to that school of hosts who know how to welcome without intruding. Upon your arrival, a homemade traditional cake awaits — a simple gesture that speaks volumes about the care put into each stay. Their quietly attentive presence makes this house far more than a rental: an address where guests feel truly received.

Urdax's geographic position is an underappreciated asset. A few kilometers from the French border, the village opens onto the Baztan valley and its vibrant Basque traditions — txakoli, pelota, village festivals — while remaining an ideal base for exploring the Itsusi gorges, the caves of Zugarramurdi, or simply the wooded paths that set off directly from the hamlet.

When the stay comes to an end, what groups carry away with them goes beyond the sum of their activities: it is the memory of a meal that lasted hours on the terrace with that sweeping hillside panorama, the surprise of a Basque-Navarrese territory that was simply waiting to be discovered, and the quiet certainty that they will return. Aterbea, in the Basque language, evokes shelter. The word says it all.

Eneko E.★★★★★

We stayed for four days in October, and everything was perfect. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel very comfortable. The house is very large and welcoming, with plenty of space for the little ones to play. We didn't miss a thing, which is a good sign. Outside, there's a terrace with a barbecue, which would surely be great for dinners at other times of the year. The thoughtful touch Karmentxu added was a lovely surprise; thank you so much!

A very spacious rural house with its own terrace in the middle of the countryside and spectacular views. It's a shame we didn't have more time to enjoy it. The owner, Karmentxu, is a lovely lady. If we return to the area, we'll definitely stay here again!

The house is beautiful and spacious. The location is spectacular and the views are breathtaking. Total tranquility. Iosune and Karmenxu were very friendly. And they gave us a traditional cake as a welcome gift. A 10 out of 10 for them and their house.

We returned after a few years to relive a great experience, and it didn't disappoint. The house is fantastic, the surroundings are wonderful, and the hosts are amazing. They are top-notch people who treated us as always, which is to say, fantastic.
