Casa El Pinsapo Grazalema

About
At the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema, where Andalusia takes on the feel of the ends of the earth, Grazalema is a white village clinging to the slopes of its namesake natural park — one of the wettest spots in Spain, and paradoxically one of the most luminous when the sun breaks through after a storm. This is where the pinsapo grows, that ancient endemic fir tree which gave the house its name: a rare species, resilient, deeply rooted in this land.
Casa El Pinsapo is an authentic cottage that carries the soul of the village without trying to conceal it. The thick walls keep things cool in summer, and in winter, a fireplace invites you to settle in for the evening — you'll want to stock up on wood upon arrival, while the house finds its warmth. Two guests or a small family will feel right at home in a simple, functional interior where the essentials are all there: a fully equipped kitchen for preparing the slow-cooked dishes you feel like making in the mountains, a living room with a sofa facing the fire, and bedrooms where you sleep soundly after a day spent in the gorges.
Because everything happens outside. Steps away, the Grazalema viewpoint offers a vista over a patchwork of green hills and limestone rock that few places in Europe can match. Hikers set out early for the Garganta Verde or the Puerto de las Palomas; climbers already know this region as an exceptional playground. In the evenings, the cobbled lanes of the village and its handful of tapas bars are a reminder that life here has its own pace — slow, generous, unpretentious.
The owner, responsive and attentive, makes sure the stay goes without a hitch.
What guests take away from Casa El Pinsapo is not the luxury of state-of-the-art amenities. It is the memory of a misty morning on the heights, of a golden light grazing the white rooftops, and of that silence particular to villages where the mountains still protect something unspoiled.

The house is fine. Everything is very old and poorly maintained, but it's okay. However, I wasn't very impressed with the service. The beds weren't made, and there weren't enough sheets and towels for all the beds and people in our group. There was very little toilet paper, and not even a single piece of firewood to start the fireplace. These are small details, but they make all the difference.

It was a very good 3 days and 2 nights. The house was a bit cold, and having to buy firewood upon arrival meant it took a while to heat up, even though there were two heaters on the table. The living room and kitchen were large and well-equipped. The bedrooms had heating, but in two of them, the heaters turned off after a short time. There was only one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom, which wasn't enough for 3 days and 9 people. The dishwasher didn't work perfectly, but it did speed things up. There weren't any cleaning products to clean the bathroom, for example. But apart from those minor details, we had a very good weekend. The house was fine, and we were able to walk around and see the town and surrounding area, which was the reason we came.

The truth is, the house is quite basic in terms of what you might expect from a holiday home, although the owner was very helpful and quickly resolved a minor issue. The house is comfortable and located in a very quiet part of the village, ideal for hiking in the area.

Very spacious and welcoming house, very well equipped. Sleeps many (more than 12). The kitchen is huge and the living room is very cozy, with a fireplace and plenty of seating. It's not close to the town center, but it's near some great hiking trails, making it ideal for that. Very big house and cozy place. It's nicely equipped too. Capacity for many people (more than 12). A very big kitchen and the living room is very cozy, with a fireplace and armchairs for everyone. It isn't close to the downtown area, although it's fantastic for trekking.

Dry for being one of the rainiest towns in Spain, but very beautiful overall, and as for the rain, that's just another problem in Spain.
