Gîte du moulin de Gougnet

A stay and accommodation in an exceptional setting. Everything was perfect: the facilities, the pool, the location, the owners. A perfect weekend for a group of motorcyclists visiting this magnificent region.

Our stay at Moulin du Gougnet was generally disappointing, with a clearly poor value for money. The cottages are particularly well "optimized," but this results in small, narrow attic bedrooms that are unsuitable for storing suitcases. The bathroom is so cramped that an adult can't even stand up in it. The heat upstairs is almost unbearable. The windows barely open, making ventilation nearly impossible. The air conditioning, located in the hallway, is ineffective. The house seems poorly insulated, both thermally and acoustically. We even heard rodents during our stay. The towels provided, at an extra cost, are small, which is far from comfortable. The area around the pool is slippery, requiring extra vigilance with children. Furthermore, the wooden deck, clearly a makeshift affair, has dangerously exposed screws. The shade sail needs to be removed in case of rain, but putting it back up is both an acrobatic and complicated task. Finally, the cash payment demanded by the owners, as well as their distant welcome, added to our dissatisfaction.

Overall, I was disappointed with the gîte; the price is excessive for what was offered. We received a warm welcome, and the owners were kind and attentive. However, there are a few drawbacks, and the photos are not very representative. The rooms are much too small, for example, 6 square meters for single beds and a maximum of 9 square meters for double beds. The latter have very basic ventilation, with only tilt-and-turn windows, or windows with a small opening. There is one nice room, admittedly, but it has no window at all. I was also disappointed with the room amenities: no wardrobes and only small pieces of furniture. Regarding the bedding, some guests found hair in it. For 250 euros, the cleanliness could be much better. The cleaning left something to be desired. We had to rewash the dishes, one drawer contained stale bread, the tables had a ruined bubble wrap layer, and they were all covered in stains. Furthermore, these bistro tables are hardly suitable; it's difficult to fit 20 people together outdoors. However, the kitchen is functional, and the swimming pool provided some lovely moments, fortunately with the good weather. The setting is also beautiful, surrounded by nature, offering a real change of scenery.
