Domaine des Grands Bois

Highly recommended. The setting is both majestic and calm, with panoramic views of beautiful Dordogne in all of its green splendor. The buildings are made of a really beautiful stone variety, and the property lends itself to enjoyment in every possible aspect, with a salt water pool again well positioned so that one may enjoy the views. The positioning of the buildings is a recurring theme, the layout is perfect for the space and one feels the estate is open to the landscape vs some properties I've stayed where it feels more closed off. Our rooms were very clean, with laundry on site, and the hosts were incredibly helpful; they arranged a private yoga session as well as an introduction to some nearby gourmet food artisans... All in all a fabulous trip, wish it were closer to home but if I come back to France this will be a mandatory stop!

I think it's the perfect place for a retreat. Fantastic sunrises and sunsets, star-filled skies, and sacred forests. I believe that all of them are places where spirits that can heal the mind and body and recharge energy dwell.

Last April, I had the pleasure of celebrating my fiftieth birthday with my loved ones over a weekend at Domaine des Maurelles. I found this place to be a haven of nature, tranquility, and remarkable beauty. The cottages, all built of stone, are furnished with care and elegance. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We enjoyed some wonderful walks. The village of Milhac is like a movie set. Everything is full of charm. The owner of this little paradise, Claire, is a rare gem. Her enthusiasm, her infectious joie de vivre, and her energy delighted me as much as her immense generosity. During the preparations for my party, she was incredibly attentive and adaptable to all my requests. She found a solution to each and every one of my problems and concerns. Without exception. I commend her inventiveness and creativity. She found recipes for all the specific dietary needs of my guests, without it seeming like a burden to her. On the contrary, she enjoyed taking on each of these challenges. Upon arrival, she welcomed us with her smile and warm cheerfulness. She did me many favors, often free of charge. The delicious dishes and drinks she prepared for us using quality local products were delightful. Throughout the weekend, she was always present and full of festive suggestions. All my guests were full of praise for her. We all appreciated her love of doing things well and her genuine human connection. I felt right at home, but even better. I felt like a queen. The party was phenomenal. All of this was possible thanks to Claire, her attention to detail that made everyone feel comfortable, and her impeccable organization. She was dedicated to ensuring that every moment was wonderful and beautiful. I express my deepest gratitude to Claire, the Magician of Les Maurelles, whose heart is filled with stars.
