Una delle case si insinua nella roccia come una vera abitazione rupestre — una cueva che alcuni tornano ad abitare anno dopo anno, da Barcellona o Madrid, perché offre ciò che poche destinazioni riescono davvero a dare: un silenzio interiore completo. Le famiglie e i gruppi di amici che occupano l'insieme degli alloggi scoprono presto di avere spazio in abbondanza. I posti letto sono generosi, i soggiorni confortevoli e ben attrezzati per cucinare insieme le ricette andaluse riportate dal mercato di Cazorla, a pochi minuti di strada. I letti, regolarmente elogiati nelle recensioni, offrono un comfort sorprendente per delle case rurali.
Fuori, le piscine regalano pause fresche sotto il sole di Jaén, e le terrazze diventano presto il quartier generale delle lunghe serate. Quattro famiglie in vacanza o un gruppo di amici riuniti per festeggiare Capodanno: la configurazione si adatta ai grandi gruppi senza sforzo. Il padrone di casa, molto presente e premuroso, vigila affinché non manchi nulla e ogni soggiorno si costruisca su misura.
Quello che si porta via da Fontanar è meno una lista di cose viste che qualcosa di più discreto: il ricordo di una luce dorata sulle pietre al crepuscolo, del pane e dell'olio d'oliva del posto condivisi su un grande tavolo, di una notte in cui le stelle erano intrattenimento sufficiente. Un'Andalusia lontana dai cliché, autentica e profonda, che fa venire voglia di tornare — come testimoniano coloro che l'hanno scoperta per la prima volta.

This is the third time we've repeated the experience at the cave house. We came from Barcelona and we love spending our holidays there. It's a peaceful place where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cave house's customs are wonderful, as is the Andalusian patio. We love enjoying the cave house, as it's cool and fantastic during the heat waves. The mattresses are new and of good quality, so we sleep great. The houses have all the kitchen and cleaning supplies. They also provide bath towels and sheets. The house's facilities are fantastic, large, and everything is lacking in detail. They have four cave rooms and one that isn't. Two bathrooms, and the refrigerator is also a new American-style refrigerator. Everything is very clean. The outdoors is great, with a barbecue and an area with armchairs and loungers. Downstairs, there's a small playground. The pool area is upstairs, with a Balinese bed and loungers. Plus, they've now renovated it, adding artificial turf and a full bathroom with two showers. So we're delighted to repeat the experience. Plus, Victor, the owner, and his fantastic family are lovely and super friendly. We'll definitely be back.
We were four families together and had more than enough space. The houses are very comfortable and well-equipped for large groups. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the pools were lovely and well-maintained. Victor, our host, was very friendly and recommended some great things to do.
A group of friends and I stayed to end the year. The house is very nice, and the host's service is excellent. I would suggest a few improvements, which I imagine he wouldn't have much trouble making, but they would enhance guests' comfort. These are simple things, like having a metal bucket to carry the embers from downstairs to the barbecue upstairs, or keeping the firewood closer to the house and better covered in case of rain (simple things the host will surely address soon). Otherwise, it's a great place to go with family and friends.
We spent a week in the summer with a large group of friends and children and thoroughly enjoyed both houses. Casa Costumbres is a cave house and very cool. The kitchen and dining area is spacious, and all but one of the bedrooms are caves, each themed around a different theme (wine, olive oil, bullfighting, flamenco, etc.). The feeling of sleeping in a cave might not be for everyone (two bedrooms don't have windows), but during a heatwave, it was a welcome relief. Casa Patio is right above it and also has a very spacious common area (kitchen and dining room) with a high ceiling that gives the house a great sense of spaciousness, although it's not as cool. Its bedrooms are very nice. We liked both pool areas; some of us enjoyed the heated pool more (which is used as a regular pool in the summer), while others preferred the upstairs pool, which has a bar area for barbecues. There's also a large gazebo with two big tables and a barbecue. Both houses were very clean, and according to Victor, the owner, the mattresses were new, which we were able to confirm. Areas for improvement include the toilet seats, the lack of a washing machine (although there is a dishwasher), the absence of a clothesline for drying swimsuits and towels, and the need for an extra fan in one of the rooms of the Patio house. Special mention to the owner, Victor, who was very kind and attentive at all times; he even helped me with a car problem. The area around the house is very quiet and safe, ideal for rest and relaxation. Fontanar is very close to Pozo Alcón, which has supermarkets, a pharmacy, a gas station, ATMs, bars, and cafes. There are numerous nature trails nearby, all within a 30-minute drive. In my opinion, it's an ideal option for large groups looking to relax, disconnect, and enjoy the mountain surroundings. 100% recommended.
