Disappointing Kitchen, Unexpected Events, and Guest Experience Issues Our 28-day journey through Italy and various accommodations has unfortunately led us to our first truly disappointing experience, particularly concerning the advertised kitchen facilities. As avid cooks who enjoy utilizing local produce, we specifically seek out places with well-equipped kitchens. This property fell far short. The kitchen was severely under-equipped, and much of what was provided was old and worn, including chipped crockery, a blunt peeler, a smelly dish sponge, and very little dishwashing liquid. Compounding this, despite the remote 7km dirt track leading to the accommodation, essential staples like salt, pepper, oil, tea, and coffee were not provided – a stark contrast to every other place we've stayed. While salt and pepper were supplied upon request, we felt as though we were imposing on the staff. We also had to ask for a bin liner (only one was initially in the bin), pool towels, and BBQ tools, despite a BBQ being advertised. Cleanliness in our rooms also left much to be desired, and the pillows were in desperate need of replacement. Wifi and TV. Why bother !!! it was extremely poor Wifi and TV was smaller than a PC screen and unusable. A significant issue was the lack of transparency regarding events and family / friends use. The platform we booked through did not advertise that the property hosts large events / parties. Early the morning after our arrival, around 15 staff members began scurrying to set up for two events for a total of 100 people. This included removing chairs from our balcony whilst eating our breakfast. Then while trying to relax poolside, a staff member abruptly attempted to take the sun umbrella we were sitting under, arguing with me when I requested he not. Throughout the setup and during the events, we felt like unwelcome guests, largely ignored by staff while attempting to relax by the pool. Furthermore, we experienced what we considered improper etiquette from the owner, who lives offsite and runs the villa as a business. When my partner and I tried to use the pool, we struggled to compete for any space with the owners' son and twelve 16-year-old friends (none of whom were paying guests or lived onsite). The owner then argued with me, defending the kids' use of the pool. We booked for six nights. While the pool, restaurant, and views were undeniably lovely, the owners should consider investing in basic kitchen items if they intend to advertise cooking facilities. It is a remote location certainly worth visiting for its beauty, but given the issues with the kitchen, cleanliness, unexpected events, and feeling like an imposition, it unfortunately doesn't rank among our top stays so far.
We had an incredible stay at Re Artù. Andrea, Silvia and Maria made us feel very welcome. Our apartment had everything necessary to cook meals in between dining out. We had coffee every morning and wine every evening on our terrace overlooking the hill of Assisi. It’s right on the Camino di Francesco, with beautiful scenery and good walks. Andrea and Maria also gave us a lovely private cooking class where we made our own homemade pasta lunch. We can’t wait to come return.
We thought it was beautiful, surroundings are picturesque and the apartments have an Italian rustic feel to them. Owners very welcoming, continental breakfast was delicious!
